Is Something Within You Asking for More This Summer?

Creating space to pause, listen and reconnect with yourself.

Maybe you're reading this while sitting in the garden with a cup of tea, enjoying a quiet moment on holiday, or simply taking a break from the usual rhythm of everyday life.

Perhaps you're enjoying summer — the lighter evenings, time outdoors, holidays, family, friends and a little more freedom from your usual routines.

And yet, somewhere in the background, there may be a quiet feeling you can't quite put your finger on.

  • A thought that keeps returning.

  • A sense that something is shifting.

  • Something within you is asking to be heard.

The many faces of summer

We often imagine summer as a season of freedom, happiness and ease.

And it can be all of those things.

There may be more time outdoors, days in the garden, walks in nature, travel, socialising and simply being outside in the light.

Summer can make us feel brighter, lighter and more alive.

It can also invite us to slow down.

Perhaps you're lying on a beach, looking out towards the horizon, listening to the ocean and suddenly finding yourself reflecting on your life.

  • Your relationships.

  • Your family.

  • Your work.

  • The person you're becoming.

Because summer can create a little more space to notice what is happening within us.

And perhaps, in one of those quieter moments, you find yourself wondering:

“Is this really where I'm meant to be?”

Not necessarily because anything is terribly wrong.

Maybe life is actually quite good.

But perhaps there's a quiet part of you beginning to ask for something more.

Summer and the wisdom of nature

Summer brings us closer to the natural world.

We notice the abundance around us — flowers in bloom, trees at their fullest, wildlife, long light-filled evenings and the rhythm of the sea.

Nature doesn't rush its seasons.

  • It grows.

  • It flowers.

  • It changes.

And eventually, it lets go.

Perhaps there is something here for us too.

We experience our own seasons of growth and change. We reach milestones, experience endings and beginnings, let go of old ways of being and open to something new.

Sometimes, without quite realising it, we arrive at a threshold.

The life we have known may still be familiar, but something about it no longer feels quite the same.

The old way doesn't quite fit anymore.

And the new way hasn't fully revealed itself.

These in-between spaces can feel uncomfortable, but they can also be where profound transformation begins.

When summer feels like a lot

Of course, summer isn't always peaceful.

Sometimes it can be a lot.

More plans. More socialising. More family. More pressure to get out, be busy and make the most of it.

Then there are the heat, disrupted routines, travel and the feeling of being constantly “on”.

Instead of feeling relaxed, you may find yourself feeling overstimulated, overwhelmed, anxious or simply exhausted.

And if you're already navigating challenges or change in your life, summer can amplify what you're feeling.

  • Perhaps your relationship is changing.

  • Perhaps family dynamics have shifted.

  • Perhaps your children are growing up and you're wondering who you are beyond your role as a mother.

  • Perhaps work no longer feels aligned.

  • Perhaps you're entering a new chapter of life.

Or perhaps nothing is particularly wrong at all.

You simply sense that you've begun to outgrow something that once fitted you.

That quiet feeling that something needs to change

Sometimes we can't explain it.

We just know that something needs our attention.

You might find yourself thinking:

  • “I just want to feel like myself again.”

  • “Where do I go from here?”

  • “What do I actually want?”

You might simply know:

  • I'm at a crossroads.

  • I've lost touch with myself.

  • Something needs to change.

  • I don't know what's next.

And perhaps you're not looking for someone to tell you what to do.

Perhaps you're longing for a little space to step away from everyone else's expectations and hear your own voice.

To reconnect with the part of you that already knows more than you realise.

Perhaps you don't need to do more

This summer, perhaps you don't need another thing on your to-do list.

Perhaps you don't need another answer.

Perhaps you don't need to fix yourself.

Perhaps you need to pause.

To breathe.

To listen.

To create some space around whatever is happening in your life.

To remember who you are beneath the noise, the expectations, the roles and the constant doing.

Because sometimes the next chapter doesn't begin with doing more.

It begins when we finally give ourselves permission to stop and listen.

And sometimes, when we listen deeply enough, we discover that the wisdom we've been searching for isn't somewhere outside of us.

It has been within us all along.
